Water Resources Workshop, Ecuador
In 2004, Don Anderson worked closely with the U.S. Agency for International Development-Ecuador, local organizations like Fundación Antisana, and an aquatic biologist from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to develop and deliver on-site Spanish-language training addressing potential impacts of water-supply development on Ecuador’s physical and biological environment.
Ciego de Ávila Wetland Management Workshop, Cuba
In 2007, Don Anderson coordinated an interactive Spanish-language workshop with Cuban hydrologists, biologists, and community planners to evaluate water management strategies to benefit the biologically rich coastal resources of the extensive Gran Humedal del Norte de Ciego de Ávila, a biological reserve and RAMSAR-designated wetland complex. Don subsequently secured grant funds to support the development of the initial surface and groundwater hydrology models for the area.
Community Soil Conservation Workshops, Honduras
Don Anderson coordinated soil conservation, reforestation, agro-forestry and ‘appropriate technology’ projects to protect the rural headwaters serving the capital city of Honduras. This included delivering training for rural farmers and farming cooperatives in the buffer zone surrounding the La Tigra National Park cloud forest, with a focus on soil conservation and reforestation principles and practices.
